Candidate Statements
--------------------


Kevin Furman
-------------
Kevin Furman is the Supervisor of the Data Analytics and Optimization
section at ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company.  His recent roles in
ExxonMobil include efforts in power plant design, electricity market
and economic analysis, and as the Corporate Strategic Research
Planning Manager.  Prior to that Kevin spent much of his career at
ExxonMobil focused on research, development and project leadership in
the areas of systems engineering, mathematical optimization, data
analytics and high performance computing for application in areas
including maritime transportation and logistics, LNG supply chain
optimization, reservoir development planning, and refinery planning
and scheduling.

Kevin completed his PhD in chemical engineering at the University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign specializing in Computational Science and
Engineering.  He is an author of 25 peer reviewed scientific
publications and an inventor on nearly 20 patents and patents pending.
Kevin’s professional activities include active membership and previous
officer roles in INFORMS and AIChE and he is an Editorial Board member
for Energy Systems journal.  He has been a Director of the COIN-OR
Foundation since 2007 and has recently been participating on
committees for the Transportation Research Board unit of the National
Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.


Horand Gassmann
-------------
Horand (Gus) Gassmann is a Professor at the Rowe School of Business at
Dalhousie University (Halifax, Canada). He  has a long-standing
interest in the development of formats for data interchange and was a
co-developer of the SMPS format for stochastic linear programs. Since
2006 he has been active in the development of the OS project and is
currently a co-manager of this COIN-OR project (along with Kipp Martin
and Jun Ma). He served on the Strategic Leadership Board from 2015 to
2018 and is the current treasurer of COIN-OR.


Giacomo Nannicini
-------------
Giacomo Nannicini is a Research Staff Member in the Theory of Quantum
Computing and Information group at the IBM T. J. Watson Research
Center. Before joining IBM, he was an assistant professor in the
Engineering Systems and Design pillar at the Singapore University of
Technology and Design. His main research interest is optimization
broadly defined and its applications. Giacomo received several awards,
including the 2016 COIN-OR Cup, the 2015 Robert Faure prize, the 2012
Glover-Klingman prize. He is the project manager of RBFOpt.

Regarding the COIN-OR foundation, Giacomo's goal, if elected, is to
transition to a self-sustaining model by reducing expenses, (e.g.,
abandoning the software hosting business), and focusing on ensuring
the quality of the software available under COIN-OR via peer review.


Haroldo Gambini Santos
-------------
Haroldo Gambini Santos is a Professor in the Computer Science
Department of Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto. He has a PhD in
Computer Science from Universidade Federal Fluminense (2007). His
research focuses in the development of algorithms and models for
combinatorial optimization problems. In 2012, he was awarded with the
first prize in the International Timetabling Competition (ITC 2011),
with his team GOAL. In 2013, he was awarded with the third place in
the MISTA 2013 Challenge.
