Are you interested in helping with the documentation project Lou
mentioned?
Send a note to Kevin Furman (kevin.c.furman at exxonmobil.com).
Ditto to anyone else out there!
Kevin's drafted a proposal & is looking for feedback & people to work with
on this.
It's a GREAT idea and like all great ideas, needs some volunteers hrs to
make it an on-going reality.

Joe,
There's a slowly advancing plan to set up a general
documentation
project, with exactly the mandate you're suggesting: a place for tutorial
and
reference material that's aimed more at the algorithm/technique level, as
opposed to being tied to specific pieces of software.
I'm not directly involved with it at this point, but one
of the other
folks working on it may have more to say.
