[Symphony] Unexpected behaviour of gap_limit in symphony 5.1

We have now made a new release 5.1.11 that fixes this bug if you want
to continue to use 5.1. It's actually still present in 5.2, though it
didn't exhibit itself on the example you sent. We fixed it in the
stable branch of 5.2, but have not made a new release yet.
