[Project-managers] Action Needed: Creating stable versions

Hi Brian,
Sorry, I didn't mean to alarm you. Of course, I'm sure reasonable
exceptions will be made. The push to get stable versions created is
mainly targeted at the "core" projects that have been in existence for
years and have never really had a "stable release." Since many of the
core projects depend on each other, it's difficult to get the ball
rolling without creating initial stable versions of all of them first.
Of course, by pushing for this to happen so quickly, we realize there is
a possibility that the first "stable release" may not be as "stable" as
we would like. We have not yet clearly defined what "stable" means, so
maybe "fixed" is a better word. In many cases, however, the code
currently in subversion really does represent a relatively stable
version, but we have just never forced ourselves to get around to
tagging it as such. By putting everyone on a short leash, we are trying
to force some discipline on ourselves that we haven't had before. In the
case of CSDP, since you have had previous stable releases and since no
other COIN projects depend on yours, I'm sure that sticking to your
original schedule would be fine. Sorry for the confusion.
Cheers,
Ted
