Yikes, that’s not supposed to happen. Do you have some old version of Matlab lying around on your path somewhere? Maybe with an expired license that’s freezing on startup?
What do the following return from the MSYS prompt?
which matlab.exe
which mexext.bat
cmd /c mexext.bat
