Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
my name is Christian Woellenstein. I am a student from Cologne/Germany.
Since more than one week I spend a lot of hours to install COIN, but I don’t
get it done. I really don’t know what I’m doing wrong and so I really need
help. Hopefully, you can give me the advices I need, because except me, there
is no one I know of working with that beautiful program (I enjoyed and
appreciated the work with COIN in combination with GAMS very much!!!).
But maybe I should start at the beginning. I use Win 2000. My goal is to use
COIN under Visual c++.net.
First, I downloaded “COIN_2005Dec01.tar” and “gamscoin_visual.tar”. I
followed exactly the advices form the website _www.gams.com/gamscoin/_
(http://www.gams.com/gamscoin/) .
Here is my first questions:
(1) Did I download the right components?
(2) Are there any other, maybe more detailed Installing guides?
I downloaded “gnu make-3.80.tar”. As I tried to install that, the program
to configure it stopped, giving me advices to download “DJGPP”. The Website “
Delorie.com” gave me the advice to download this:

Here is my next questions:
(3) Did I download the right components? Do you miss something?
After that I installed both programms, make-3.80 and DJGPP, without
problems.
Then I changed to the COIN directories. As a starter, I tried to install
\Examples\Bac.
I changed to \examples/bac and typed “make”. This were the results:
“(cd /COIN/Osi/OsiClp && c:/programme/make-3.80/make-3.80/make.exe install)
No such file or directory
(cd /COIN/Cgl && c:/programme/make-3.80/make-3.80/make.exe install)
No such file or directory
C:/programme/make-3.80/make-3.80/make.exe –f Makefile.bc bcps
No such file or directory
Make.exe[1]: Entering directory ‘c:/COIN/examples/BAC’
/COIN/Makefiles/Makefile.coin:35: /COIN/Makefiles/makefile.:
No such file or directory (ENOENT)
No such file or directory
“”
Creating dependency BCP_INST_system.d
Forbidden Option -/COIN
Make.exe[1] *** [/COINBcp/dep/BCP_INST_system-d] Error-1
Make.exe[1]: Leaving directory ‘c:/COIN/Examples/BAC’
Make.exe: ***[bc] Error 2”
Note: I translated the german “Befehl oder Dateiname nicht gefunden” as “No
such file or directory”. I hope, that this is correct translation because it
should rather be “Command or file name not found”.
The next questions:
(4) Why does “make” does not build the libraries (I didn’t change
Makefile.coin or Makefile.location)?
(5) How do Makefile.coin and makefile.location have to look like, if they
should run under Windows 2000?
(6) I want to use COIN under Visual C++.net 2003. After I build all
libraries etc. with “make”, will COIN work then there? Or do I have to make more
adjustments?
Thanks in advance,
greetings from Cologne,
Christian Woellenstein
