Thanks very much for replying. It worked with a slight modification. Had to use:
	clp -keepname off -import a.mps -presolve off -export b.mps

If you use clp in the following way it should give names Rnnnnnn etc which
should be easier to use.

clp -keepnam false -import xxxx.mps -presolve off -export yyyy.mps
