Comment:

 I'm not sure what you mean by "it is called as a void function." The
 function returns an integer termination code, so it has to be an int
 function. I'm surprised that ignoring the return value causes a linking
 error, but to fix it, you can probably just set the function equal an
 integer variable and capture the return code.
