Ugh. One more reason I'm using Matlab less and less lately. You may want
to have a look at Julia http://julialang.org as a potential replacement,
there is an Ipopt interface available as well as a sophisticated
optimization modeling language called JuMP that calculates derivatives for
you and is higher-performance than anything you can get in Matlab. I don't
have Matlab 2014a installed anywhere, and wasn't planning on doing so any
time soon. What breaks when you try to build the Matlab interface? Do
existing mex files compiled with older versions of Matlab still work?
