 The problem appears to be at https://projects.coin-
 or.org/BuildTools/browser/releases/0.7.8/coin.m4#L1688

 Would changing the test -r to test -x be a simple short-term fix? These
 macros are used by every COIN project, so it would be worth looking into
 which projects are relying on that section of code, ie checking for an
 existing libtool one or two folders up from the build directory.
