 It looks like I was at least half-wrong in my initial report:

 MA27 is available from HSL.  I didn't realize that the "HSL Archive" and
 "HSL 2007 Packages" were different things.  Maybe the documentation could
 make that clearer, or maybe I was just being dense.  Either way, if you go
 to the __archive__, MA27 is still there.  Everything does work when you
 use MA27.  I haven't made time to try MA57 with 3.4, but I'll get to it
 some time soon.
