<font size=2 face="sans-serif">It will take us a while to go through all
these hints and recommendations, but thank you very much: this looks quite
promising. In particular, I think using the SjLj-based MinGW compiler
(if we can make it work) will get us a long way. Everybody is being
very helpful and we are grateful.</font>
<br>
<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">A couple of notes.</font>
<br>
<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">Regarding pkg-config: where Kipp assures
us that the ApplicationTemplate examples "support" pkg-config,
an apter word would be "require". Since MinGW does not
come with pkg-config, getting these projects to work under MinGW is an
extra challenge. There seem to be two choices: use a MinGW port of
pkg-config, or use some of the tools Ted describes to deduce what the library
list should be and substitute it into the makefile by hand. I would
be thrilled to hear from anyone who has done either of these things; in
any case we can suggest some text for the wiki once we manage to get this
working.</font>
<br>
<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">Regarding building from source: this
is basically where we came in. We started on the assumption that
we would have to build from source, but we hit a wall while trying to do
this -- I don't remember the exact failure mode, but I sent email about
it to some COIN list, and was advised that it would be easier to build
against the CoinBinary libraries! So we have already changed horses
once in the middle of this river, and before we jump back, we want to understand
the issues better than we do now.</font>
<br>
<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">Thanks again for all your assistance.</font>
