 I definitely agree that this would reduce a lot of complexity. Getting rid
 of the need to look for a Fortran compiler would be awesome and simplify
 things. We should ask Brian Borchers about this, though. I think he said
 that the default versions of Blas and Lapack in many Linux distros are the
 reference implementation, which has very poor performance. It seems that
 maybe having ThirdParty packages that point to well-implemented versions
 of these would be good. We should make sure before we toss it out. Now
 that I understand the situation from Brian, I've definitely realized that
 we are better off without those packages in their current form, since they
 just pull the reference implementation.
