Comment:

 With chgset 2288, change the check for fortran compiler to use
 AC_CHECK_TOOLS instead of AC_CHECK_PROGS. This should take care of
 detecting a cross-platform compiler, if available.

 This is in trunk and will be merged to stable/0.6 and stable/0.7 soon.
