Comment:

 Turns out that CDEFS and CXXDEFS were ignored if code was configured with
 --enable-debug.  I'm going to correct this now, and will put the
 correcting into all COIN projects later today.

 If the problem also occurred without --enable-debug, I need more
 information.

 A change in Makefile.am and coin.m4 is only reflected, if the autotools
 are run again (either by hand with BuildTools/run_autotools or when
 package is configured with --enable-maintainer-mode)
